Sharing

We do not share most things. Once in awhile, to give Mom some exercise, we will curl up together.  This makes Mom go running for the camera.  Last week, we decided we had been slacking in our motivational moments for Mom and totally surprized her by sharing the ledge in front of the window.
Tatiana: I'm just here 'cuz Mom thinks it's cute.  Bailey: Whatever.

Tatiana: Give me more room!  Bailey: Whatever.

The Cat Pose

Mom was doing something funny this morning.  She said it is called Yoga.  She said it makes her feel much more relaxed and focused.  She hasn't practiced it in awhile, so admitted she was rusty.  She kept sitting, then standing, putting one leg this way then that way, raising her arms in the air.  It was funny to watch her.  At one point, Bailey was so curious, she went right over and sat ontop of Mom.  Then the red dog stuck his nose in Mom's face.  Mom couldn't stop laughing, but said next time she might have to keep us out of the room!  We doubt that, Mom let's us do whatever we want.

Cats Rule, Dogs Drool!

Yeah, we cats are the coolest, and we run the house! The dog in our house knows it, too! Well, ok, he scares Bailey a little bit, but she's the baby of the family. Tatiana, on the other hand is QUEEN in our home. She only has a couple of rules:

Rule #1 - no running in the house! (if you run, Tatiana will chase us down and smack us).

rule #2 - no excitement during mealtimes (again, more smacking; more for the dog though!).

Tatiana and the dog (the humans call him Sushi) grew up together, but Tatiana was in our home first and let Sushi know it the day he arrived. He cowered in his crate. By the end of day 2, he had enough and came charging out at her. They have been friends every since.

Now, don't get this silly idea that Tatiana and the dog cozy up to each other. Uh uh, that does not happen. But, they do play together. In fact, the dog mimics how Tatiana plays (weirdo dog).

So...here is a little video showing Tatiana beating up on ....uh...we mean...playing with the dog.

Nom Nom Nom...Mom made makerel treats yesterday.  The whole house reeked of makerel, and we loved it!!  Mom let us have some and we cleaned up our bowls quick before the dog could have any!

Noms, pleez?

Slurp, slurp, slurp, mmmmm...

Did you enjoy your treat, Bailey?

The dog did get a treat, too, humph!

Tatiana's Vet Visit

Tatiana went to the vet last week for her annual checkup.  The vet said if he didn't know that she was 8 yrs old, he would have thought she was only 5 yrs old!  Tatiana was very well behaved, and was allowed to roam around his office for a few minutes before hopping back into her carrier.  Good girl, Tatiana!!

Amazing Facts About Cats

Mom couldn't sleep so we told her to find some interesting information on cats to share.  This is what she found from various websites based on cats.

The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique, just like the fingerprint of a human.

During her productive life, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens.

The largest known litter (with all surviving) was that of a Persian in South Africa named Bluebell.  Bluebell gave birth to 14 kittens in one litter!

Sir Isaac Newton, discoverer of the principles of gravity, also invented the cat door.

The oldest cat on record was Puss, from England, who died in 1939 just one day after her 36th birthday.  (We wish we could have them all that long!)

The weirdest cat on record was a female called Mincho who went up a tree in Argentina and didn't come down again until she died six years later.  While treed, she managed to have three litters with equally ambitious dads.

The greatest number of mice killed by one cat?  28,899!  Towser, a tortoise-shell tabby in charge of rodent control in Scotland, killed 28,899 mice in her 21 years.  This is about four mice per day, every day, for 21 years.  Towser died in 1987.

Give your cat a quality scratching post to deter her from scratching your furniture.  Still scratching?  Try putting lemon scent or orange scent on the area.  Cats hate these smells.

Cats get their sense of security from your voice.  Talk to your cats!  And be mindful of your tone of voice.  Cats know when you're yelling at them (though they may not care).

The richest cat in the Guinness Book of World Records is a pair of cats who inherited $415,000 in the early '60s.  The richest single cat is a white alley cat who inherited $250,000.  (Now that will buy a lot of catnip!)
It is believed that a white cat sitting on your doorstep just before your wedding is a sign of lasting happiness.

Many experts report that cats will purr when feeling any intense emotion (pleasure or pain).

Cats spend 30% of their waking hours grooming themselves.

Your cat is probably either a "righty" or a "lefty."  Only 40% of cats are ambidextrous while another 40% are either right-pawed or left-pawed.

According to myth, a cat sleeping with all four paws tucked under means cold weather is coming.

Egyptians shaved their eyebrows as a sign of mourning when they lost a beloved cat.

Stings to the mouth can be very dangerous to cats.  If your cat is stung, or ever experiences any type of sting to the mouth, take her to the vet immediately.  As her mouth swells from the sting, she may be unable to breath.  Stings require urgent medical care.

Cats have a top speed of about 30 mp/h (48.28 km/h).

The Naming of Cats

Tatiana's name was Polly before she was adopted.  Mom and Dad said Polly just didn't suit her.  She needed something prettier and regal, so Dad picked Tatiana for her.  Worked out well.  They call her Chatty Tatty, too, since she can be quiet talkative at times.  Bailey came with her name.  Mom always liked that name, so that was a done deal!  How did you get your name?

The Naming Of Cats by T. S. Eliot
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there’s the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey–
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter–
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that’s particular,
A name that’s peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there’s still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover–
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

Sink Your Teeth Into This

Mom says cats are weird, but that is what makes them so loveable and unique.  Bailey likes to chew on anything string-like. Blind cords are a particular favorite, so are tucked into the blinds every day.  Shoe laces can be appetizing as well, and are shoved inside sneakers all the time.  Mom and Dad are always very careful that nothing resembling string is left out.  Tatiana, on the other hand, likes to lick soap.  So, Mom & Dad only have soap dispensers in the home.  The 2 fosters, Rose & Prism, both like to chew on cardboard boxes - mostly Prism.  We think Rose only does it because Prism does it.  Monkey see, monkey do!

What do you like to sink your teeth into, that you shouldn't?

Sharing

Mom is fostering 2 gorgeous black cats right now.  They are beginning to be friends.  Their names are Rose and Prism.  Today, they shared some yummy canned food, so Mom thought Sharing would be a good theme for Wordless Wednesday.  Although, we have not been wordless at all, oops!

Who Dunnit?

We are all in trouble.  Even the dog.  Mom bought a cute fluffy toy for us cats, and we love it!!  We carry it around, bat at it, chase it, it's great.  Mom got ready for work this morning, came out to the livingroom and saw that the fuzzy part of the toy was completely gone!!  She was not happy, let me tell you!

First suspect was the dog.  He was sitting in the livingroom, licking his lips.  Mom tried to pry open his mouth but no luck.  Mom told us she was sorry that the dog ruined our toy, and then had to leave.

When Mom came home, she noticed that Bailey, had some furry yellow stuff on her tongue. Hmmmm...suspicious to say the least.  However, Bailey may have found some remnants of the toy, and since she likes stringy type stuff, might have just chewed on the leftovers.

So, Tatiana should be in the clear, right?  NO.  Tatiana is the mastermind of this furry family, and Mom knows it.  So, until some "evidence" appears, either in the yard or in the litterbox, we are all #1 suspects!

STAY TUNED...

NEW TV SHOW ALERT!!

OH MY CATNESS!!!  There is a new TV show called Must Love Cats.  Mom is really excited and can not wait to watch it.  She already has it programmed to record the series!  Make sure your moms and dads know about it, too!  We are very excited.

Must Love Cats is a celebration of fascinating felines and the fascinating people who love them.
From cats that saved their owners' lives to swanky cat-only hotels, the series spans the realm of all things "cat." It offers a potpourri of amazing feline stories, jam-packed with interesting factoids and trivia bits.
The show is hosted by musician John Fulton, who combines his love for ditties with kitties. He is on a mission to prove to himself and the world that America is filled — north to south, east to west — with cat lovers, and is in fact a Cat-nation.

Two Cats Are Better Than One!

Way to go, MOM, for missing Wayside Waifs Wednesday!  Sheesh, she has no excuse, so now we are trying to make up for her laziness/forgetfulness.  We know Mom loves all the kitties at Wayside though, so I guess we'll let it slide THIS TIME.

So, we are going to feature 2 pairs of cats that need to go home together!  Did you know having 2 cats is better than one?  Yes, it is true!! Even though we tolerate each other, we play together and once in awhile can be spotted curled up together.  We keeps each other company!   And, we torment the dog too, bwa hahahaha.

Our first dynamic duo is Mini Mouse & Velvet.  Velvet is the black cat, and Mini Mouse is the Torti.  These 2 are littermates and are very bonded to one another.  They get along fine with other laid back cats, as these 2 can be quite shy at first.  But, they are very friendly and love to get attention.  They have been waiting to go home for a very long time.  To learn more about them, please click on their photo.

VELVET & MINI MOUSE

Little Grey & Sparky came from the same home.  They are having a hard time adjusting to being in a shelter environment and are still quite shy.  Sparky is a little more outgoing.  Grey prefers a quiet area, and would prefer you to speak quietly to her as well.  They are both gorgeous cats, and would be so much happier in a home with a loving family.  To learn more about them, please click on their photo.
