Baily Needs Her Forever Home

Baily is a gorgeous Persian with Torti coloring.  She was brought to Wayside Waifs when her owner was dying.  Animal Control brought her in, so unfortunately, there wasn't any information on Baily's personality.  Being a Torti, she does have a fiesty personality at times.  She is also all 4 paws declawed, so has no way to defend herself by using her paws.  She likes to have someone nearby to hang out with, and does enjoy being petted, but on her terms.  She will let you know when she has had enough. She needs an experienced cat owner, someone that can easily read her signals.  She is quite content to just have you in the same room.  When she wants attention, she will gladly headbutt your hand.  Short petting sessions seem to be what she prefers.  She can be playful, but is not overly exuberant about it.  She is in foster care while waiting for that perfect person to take her home with them.

You can learn more about Baily by clicking on her name below.  If you can not adopt Baily, please share this information along to help her find her forever family.  Thank you!

Can't Adopt a Cat? Here is What Else You Can Do to Help!

Both of us were adopted by Mom and Dad, so they have a soft spot for animals needing forever homes.  As much as Mom would love to add another furry family member to the home, she knows we do not agree with this!  Dad would like another one too, but won't admit it ;)

So...this howliday season, if your family is like ours and just can not adopt for one reason or the other, here are some other ways to help your local animal shelter find forever homes for the animals they have rescued.

ADOPT-A-CAT SCRATCHERS - buy 1 case of 20 cardboard scratchers for only $25, and Imperial Cat will send the box to the animal shelter you choose!  Meowza!  Now, that is a great deal!  Mom works for Wayside Waifs, and some volunteers have already donated some of these scratchers.  The cats give them 4 paws up!!!

FELIWAY SPRAY OR DIFFUSERS - shelters use this product to help keep the cats calmer.  The spray can be used on their blanket or in their kennel, and the diffusers are great for larger rooms.  Amazon.com usually has some really good deals.

BLANKETS & TOWELS - shelters can never have enough of these!

TOYS - safety and fun are what it's all about.  Nothing small enough for a cat to swallow, so no bells and also, nothing string-like.  Cat wand toys are wonderful for the human and cat to play together.

STAINLESS STEEL BOWLS - they are much healthier than plastic, but shelters won't turn down any bowls given!

TREATS - cats always love some yummy treats!

MAKE A MONETARY DONATION - the shelter can use these donations for whatever is needed most at the time.

CRATES/CARRIERS - for cats, ones that open from the front and the top are purrfect, but any crate or carrier is appreciated.

VOLUNTEER -  Cats love visitors and to be spoiled and played with. What are you waiting for?  It's a very rewarding experience!

Check out your local animal shelter's website to see what is on their wish list, or give them a call!

Help Wayside Waifs win $10,000!!

Help Help Help
Wayside has a chance to win $10,000. Think of all the good we can do with that money, but it takes you to make it happen. Only 77 people voted for our video yesterday, out of what, ten times that number of staff and volunteers. You can make a difference. Vote today and often. Here's how:

You can vote once a day by going to this link.http://www.youtube.com/user/CapellaInspires

Scroll down past the public service submissions and education submissions to the community submissions. After the videos load, scroll to the right to the one with a cage pictured and a title "Achieving my goal of making a difference for people and animals". Watch and vote for us please and help us earn the money. After you’ve watched the video once, you probably won’t want to do it again. So just click on “vote” in the bottom left corner of the picture of the cage when you return to vote again, hopefully often until August 22nd.

My Mom works for Wayside Waifs, so please vote every day!!!

Rescued Cat Poem

If you have adopted a cat, fostered a cat, volunteer with cats, or just love cats, read this beautiful poem.  Kleenex required.

Rescued Cat

Once I was a lonely cat,
just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
my body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat,
or gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.
Then one day I heard a voice
so gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
and took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you,"
was whispered in my ear.
"You'll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm,
you'll have enough to eat,"
"and rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let
a human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds,
and bathed and brushed my fur.
She told me about the rescue group
and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle,
a line that never ends."
"And in the center there is you
protected by new friends."

"And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
and those that share their home
after you've been found."
"And all the other folk
are searching near and far."
"To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star."
She said, "There is a family,
that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them,
just you wait and see."
"And then they'll join our circle
they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go."
I waited very patiently,
the days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought,
my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
it wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heart beat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
for a special cat like you."
Now every night I say a prayer
to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
and all you've given me.
But most of all protect the cats
in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet."

Wayside Waifs Wednesday - Featured Cat!

Hey everyone, this week we are featuring an extra special kitty, so please be sure to forward this on to everyone you know, ok?

Share Bear came from a hoarding situation.  There were about 20 cats, and Share Bear is the last one.  It's sad that he is still waiting for his forever home.  He has been waiting a very long time.  He is such a terrific cat, so let's all help him to get adopted, puh-lease!

Learn about Share Bear by clicking on his photo.  Thanks!
